Hannah Christine-Fell sits down with Pastor Thomas Beavers of the Star Church in Eastlake.

Dr. Thomas Beavers grew up with a clear path in front of him: major in biology, go to medical school, become a doctor.

Then, while in college, Thomas heard the voice of God clearly say: “Go home. Sit at your grandfather’s feet. Learn from him. For you will preach the rest of your life.”

His family wasn't exactly excited about their son’s sudden change of plans, and although Thomas’s grandfather was the senior pastor, Thomas didn’t exactly start at the top. Through time, he worked his way up from janitorial duties before eventually becoming the pastor his grandfather would entrust the church to.

In this conversation, Thomas talks about what it means to honor the people who paved the way before you without being afraid to embrace the new methods God is calling you in to. It’s about obedience over expectation, building a legacy you were made for, being unified in marriage amidst conflict, and honoring the past while embracing the future. It’s how we choose to trust God when His plans look nothing like our own... or our family's.
