Zoie Downey - From Fear to Family | Ep 11

Zoie always believed she understood her calling. A worship director and ministry school graduate, she stepped into marriage confident in her shared purpose with her husband — a life devoted to serving God together. Their future felt clear in many ways, yet one question quietly lingered beneath the surface: children.

While surrounded by a loving marriage and a ministry-centered life, Zoie never felt the desire to become a mother. She assumed time would change her heart — that eventually the “mommy bug” would bite. But as the years passed and her late twenties approached, nothing shifted. Instead, she felt conflicted and burdened by the question: Should she want kids? or was it okay to feel this way?

As her husband’s longing to become a father grew, Zoie turned to God in honest prayer. What followed was a three-year journey of seeking, wrestling, and allowing God to uncover deeper layers within her heart. Slowly, He revealed that her resistance toward children — along with other areas of her life — had been shaped not by conviction, but by fear.

Through surrender and trust, God began reshaping her understanding of family, identity, and what children truly represent in His design. As fear gave way to faith, her heart softened, and in time, God planted both the word and the desire for motherhood within her.

Today, Zoie and Taylor are the joyful parents of a sweet little boy, embracing parenthood with peace and confidence — fully trusting God’s leadership and the journey He lovingly wrote for their family.
